This poem begins with a choppy rhythm as Oliver begins introducing her ideas and then gradually flows into a continuous description of a single being. This rhythm allows the reader to be pulled in by the questioning beginning and then convinces them to stay and learn more about this grasshopper who takes over line by line. The ending is also effective in closing with a question and leaving the reader wondering and wanting more.

I agree, the rhythm is very choppy at first but the questioning does keep you reading. The wording that is used makes you relate to the grasshopper and ask questions about yourself.
